The Change we hope to see for the U.S.
President-Elect Barack Obama has chosen Nobel Prize-winning physicist Steven Chu as his Secretary of Energy. So what does it mean to be the United States Energy Secretary?
The United States Secretary of Energy is the head of the Department of Energy, and a member of the President’s Cabinet. The Current Secretary of Energy is Samuel Bodman. A large part of the Department of Energy’s job is to oversee nuclear weapons and nuclear waste storage. It will be Chu’s responsibility to find a way to also better dispose of radioactive waste generated by nuclear power plants. The Department of Energy also is devoted to improved energy production, energy regulation, educating on energy, and developing technology to harvest more efficient energy resources.
